Message from the Head
St. Margaret's School educates young women for life. Here in this quiet town on the banks of the Rappahannock River, just two hours from Washington, DC, we are preparing girls for active citizenship in a global community. Our academic program (small classes, modern technology, interdisplinary seminars, outstanding art and music programs) is designed to ensure that students gain the knowledge, skills, confidence, and flexibility of mind to succeed in college beyond. Enjoy our site on the World Wide Web. I think you'll like the school and the possibilities you discover! These will be similar possibilities to those I've discovered over the course of more than 20 years here. When I arrived from England with my husband and four-year-old son to teach French, I never imagined I would "grow up" to become the Headmistress. This path has been exciting and rewarding. First, I fell in love with the place, then the students, then all that a small school can be. Since becoming Head in 1989, I have enjoyed focusing our school's attention on the challenges our students will face throughout their lives and on building a program, both in and beyond the classroom, that will prepare them well. St. Margaret's is a lively, caring community. As you browse our web site, look for these qualities in our faces and in our words. Head of School Margaret R. Broad |
