July 14, 2008:   TEACHERS ON THE BAY CELEBRATES ITS 20TH YEAR AT ST. MARGARET'S
Now in its twentieth year, Teachers on the Bay, a summer graduate- level course run in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Virginia Commonwealth university, brings elementary and secondary teachers here to learn how to take the science and magic of this water to their own students.

June 3, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS HONORED AT AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret's School students have won academic awards and special prizes that make them eligible for college scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions. The awards were presented at the school's year-end Academic Awards Banquet on Friday, May 30.

May 31, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S GRADUATES 28 SENIORS
St. Margaret's School graduated 28 members of the Class of 2008 on Saturday, May 31. Graduates of this class will be attending some of the nation’s top colleges, including 6 colleges in Virginia, schools in 10 additional states including Colorado, New York, and Georgia, and one school in Switzerland.

May 9, 2008:   GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE AT ST. MARGARET’S SCHOOL
Local residents have an especially convenient opportunity to donate blood, thanks to St. Margaret's School. The community service organization, Basic Needs, is holding a blood drive on Wednesday, May 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Ball Memorial Gymnasium on Water Lane.

April 28, 2008:   ST. MARGARET’S SCHOOL SUPPORTS OPERATION INASMUCH
More than 70 St. Margaret's students, faculty, and staff donated their time and talents to Operation Inasmuch on Saturday, April 26.

April 9, 2008:   SMS TENNIS TEAM SHUTS-OUT WEST POINT, 9-0
The St. Margaret's tennis team made an impressive showing to shut out West Point High School 9-0 yesterday. The win brings the team's season record to 2-1.

April 7, 2008:   SCOTTY SPORTS CORNER: SCOTTY SEASON STARTS STRONG
The St. Margaret's spring athletic season has sprung and the Scotties are showing great promise. Varsity Softball, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Tennis had a strong showings.

April 2, 2008:   ST. MARGARET'S SCHOOL HONORS FALLEN ALUMNA, TEAMMATE
Together with family and friends, the St. Margaret's School community remembered fallen alumna, Mary Burke Parker, once more in a tribute on Friday, March 28.  Preceding the inaugural softball game at the school's new athletic complex on Sycamore Drive, Athletic Director Sue Haney led a dedication ceremony in memory of the 2002 graduate who was killed tragically in an automobile accident on March 14.

November 19, 2007:   TEACHING THE TEACHERS: St. Margaret's Students Speak at Conference
Four international students from St. Margaret's School were guest speakers at the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) conference in Richmond on November 5.

November 7, 2007:   ST. MARGARET'S FALL ATHLETES HONORED
Five girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula have earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments at St. Margaret’s School. They were among the student-athletes who received awards at the school’s fall sports banquet earlier today.

A steady stream of visitors, the work of committed volunteers, and the support of neighboring organizations made for a successful fund-raising event for The Haven last weekend.

November 2, 2007:   FIELD HOCKEY SCOTTIES ADVANCE IN LIS TOURNEY
The St. Margaret’s Scotties advanced to the second round of the League of Independent Schools tournament after an intense match with fifth-seeded Virginia Episcopal School last Tuesday. A 1-1 tie during regulation play sent the game into a nail-biting ten-minute overtime with each team attempting five penalty strokes.

October 24, 2007:   ST. MARGARET'S CELEBRATES TEEN READ WEEK
St. Margaret’s students were reading just for the fun of it as the school celebrated the tenth annual Teen Read Week October 14–20, 2007. Students joined with thousands of others at schools, libraries, and bookstores across the country to celebrate this year’s theme, “LOL @ your library®,” which encouraged teens to read humorous books and graphic novels.

October 19, 2007:   ST. MARGARET'S DEDICATES NEW ATHLETIC COMPLEX
Head of School Margaret R. Broad was joined by Chaplain Candine Johnson, Board Chair Jill McCuan, Athletic Director Sue Haney, and keynote speaker Heather Wood Mantz for the official dedication of the St. Margaret’s School athletic complex on October 12.

October 14, 2007:   PREP SCHOOLS PAVE WAY TO COLLEGE
Students who believe public high school isn't for them may consider attending a college preparatory school. Many private high schools consider themselves college prep schools. (From the Richmond Times-Dispatch).

October 12, 2007:   LOCAL SMS STUDENTS NAMED ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLARS
Four local graduates of the St. Margaret’s School Class of 2007 have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) exams.

October 8, 2007:   JOIN US FOR THE 9TH ANNUAL CRAFTS FESTIVAL & RIVER RUN/WALK
Area residents have two opportunities to enjoy events on the St. Margaret’s School campus at the Ninth Annual Crafts Festival and River Run/Walk this weekend. Shoppers can pick up interesting and unique items at the craft festival that will be held on Friday, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in front of Brockenbrough House on Water Lane.

October 8, 2007:   SMS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FARES WELL AT W&M INVITATIONAL
The fall athletic season is well underway at St. Margaret’s School and the SMS cross country Scotties are showing great promise. Junior Caroline Casey of Richmond led the Scotties as she finished 10th overall.

September 28, 2007:   SMS STUDENTS RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
Three seniors at St. Margaret’s School have earned recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance on the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

September 28, 2007:   SMS SENIOR RECEIVES FRENCH AWARD
Head of School Margaret Broad is pleased to announce that Hannah Kessler of Washington, DC has received a 2007-2008 Outstanding Senior in French Award from the American Association of Teachers of French. This award is made annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the many cultures where it is spoken.

September 26, 2007:   EDUCATION LEADER HEADS INTO 19th YEAR
Margaret Broad, head of school at St. Margaret's here, would be the first to say that the mission of "educating young women for life" takes every member of a dedicated faculty and staff. But the administrator heading into her 19th year at the helm of the nationally recognized private school for girls would agree that her own educational experiences have affected how she's seen the job.

September 24, 2007:   SMS VARSITY FIELD HOCKEY WON 3-0 AGAINST VES
A large and vocal turnout cheered the St. Margaret’s varsity field hockey team on to a 3-0 victory against Virginia Episcopal School on Friday, September 21. The entire student body came out to witness history in the making in this, the first game played on the new St. Margaret’s athletic fields located on Sycamore Drive in Tappahannock.

August 31, 2007:   SMS Campus Welcomes Summer Visitors
While St. Margaret’s students were on break this summer, the campus was as busy as ever. Since mid-June, the St. Margaret’s campus has served as host to more than 1,000 participants in sports camps, educational programs, and private events. Last week marked the close of the summer season with the Paul VI High School of Fairfax, Virginia football team’s pre-season training camp.
