HISTORY
Thought to have been built about the same time as the Brockenborough house, circa 1760, Anderton House takes its name from the family who owned it in 1947, when it was purchased by St. Margaret's for an additional student dormitory. The Virginia Historic Landmark survey states that the Anderton family added the southern wing in the 1890s; St. Margaret's added the balancing wing in 1971. More recently, in 1988, the school added another wing to house two faculty apartments and dorm space for 12 students.
CURRENT
Students live in singles, doubles, or triples, depending on seniority and leadership status. The basement common room contains laundry facilities as well as a T.V. and kitchen. Communal bathrooms are located on each floor; payphones are also available. The dormitory, equipped with air conditioning, has individual telephone, internet, and campus network access available from each room. Anderton House overlooks the campus beach, which provides students easy access to the Rappahannock River, boating facilities, and a private place to sunbathe on the weekends.
