Fall Family Weekend 2008

Dear St. Margaret’s families,

It is my pleasure to add one more welcome to the 2008-2009 school year. As you might imagine, we have stayed busy in June planning for a full and productive year, with the goal of educating young women for life firmly in our sights. We are indebted to our student leaders for their suggestions on our programs, schedules, and policies. We look forward to having you here, to providing time for you to get to know us and each other, and to sharing our students and their achievements throughout the year.

One of the earliest opportunities to see the school from all perspectives is Fall Family Weekend, scheduled for October 10th and 11th. Please note that the official activities take place between noon on Friday, Oct. 10th and noon on Saturday, Oct. 11th. This weekend is a wonderful time to see St. Margaret’s School in action, from the classrooms to the sports’ fields. On the schedule of events, you can see time to be with your daughter, time to get to know those important to her here at school, opportunities to get to know other families and support school events and projects, and designated times in which you can schedule parent-teacher conferences. We look forward to having you here.

Please review the enclosed Fall Family Program and return the reply form promptly. You will note that you can also register by e-mail. As you can see, there is definitely something for everyone, from athlete to intellectual, from grandparents to youngest child.

The weekend will begin with Friday lunch and end prior to lunch on Saturday, with a full array of activities in between. There will not be a formal program at either of these meals, and families may leave campus after the volleyball matches on Saturday. On Friday, mini-classes place you literally in your daughters’ seats to better understand her academic program. You can also shop at the Craft Fair on the lawn in your free periods. The field hockey game will take place at our fields on Sycamore Drive, a beautiful place to enjoy the afternoon. Tennis will be right across the street from our main campus. At the Parent Receptions you will have an opportunity to meet families with daughters in your daughter’s class, the class sponsors, and other members of the faculty and administration. The Junior Class time will include an official overview of the college search process with our Director of College Guidance, Sheri Gross. The Seafood Festival Buffet is a relaxed family event on the river for our entire school community. Friday evening’s program features a number of our students. You’ll want to be here to hear about the experiences they will share and to look ahead with us at what the year holds for our school. And don’t forget to sign up for the Alumnae Association River Run (you can also walk!) on Saturday morning. A form is enclosed. You can stay in your running clothes to cheer on our teams later that morning!

Please call or email Cookie Evans cevans@sms.org, if you have any questions and please register by Friday, October 6th. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Yours sincerely,

Margaret R. Broad

Special boarding student information: Please note that because of the many school-centered activities, we are asking that all boarding students remain on campus Friday night through 11:30 on Saturday. Please do not ask for exceptions. The remainder of this long weekend has been designated as a time for families of boarding students to spend time together either here at St. Margaret’s or off campus. If you would like for your daughter to stay with you or with the parents of another St. Margaret’s student during all or part of that time, please follow the usual weekend permission routine. Mr. Keith Krusz, Dean for School Life, must receive all invitations and permissions by Wednesday, September 24th. The campus will be open for any students wishing to remain with us, but we strongly encourage you to consider using this time for family visits.
