Mr. McDowell has taught a wide variety of classes during his time at SMS, including Women in Leadership, US History, Civics, Music Theory and Guitar, SAT Prep and Multimedia. In addition, he has held many Administrative positions prior to his current role as Dean of Faculty.  One of St. Margaret’s most loved faculty members, Mr. McDowell can always be counted on to make us smile, whether through his guitar playing or his great teaching.

With the Head of School, Mr. McDowell advises the SMS student leaders, helping them serve the school in their elected or appointed positions, as well as helping them develop their own leadership skills. He also is the co-organizer of the St. Margaret’s Co-Curriculum, emphasizing that what students learn outside of class is just as important as academic performance, such as personal wellness, creativity, and leadership.

Mr.McDowell has also earned many honors during his teaching career, including Who’s Who among American Teachers. He lives on campus with his wife, Kimberly, and his two sons Ian and Keifer.
