Ms. Velletri has held many positions at SMS, including Dean of Residence and College Counselor, before becoming the Head of the History Department. She teaches a variety of classes from US History to Advanced Placement Modern European to Foreign Policy and Great Books. Ms. Velletri always encourages her students to think critically, applying their knowledge to see the bigger picture as it relates to today’s current issues. She is also the recipient of the 2005 Robert Carter and Toole Rotter Wellford Faculty Award for innovation in the classroom and "service above self."
Outside of SMS, Ms. Velletri is on the Board of Directors for Aylett Country Day School, the Essex County Museum, and the Virginia Council of History Education. She is also and active member of the National Council for History Education, the Organization of American Historians, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she is serving her third year as Senior Warden at St. John's Episcopal Church.
