Junior Elizabeth McCarthy of Dunnsville and sophomore Katie Hodges of Tappahannock were both named to the League of Independent Schools All L.I.S. Softball Team. To gain the honor, players must be nominated by their coaches. The coaches supply each player's statistics and express why that player is worthy of the honor. Once all nominations have been made, LIS coaches vote on the top 14 players. Coaches may not vote for their own players.
Elizabeth McCarthy received an additional honor from the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association, being named to their 1st Team.
According to Coach Sue Ball, "These players are the best of the best in Division II Softball in the state of Virginia."
The selection process is similar to the League of Independent Schools, with coaches nominating players who they think qualify for the honor. This is the second time Elizabeth has been selected for the state's 1st team and the third time she has been honored by the VISAA. Two years ago, she was selected for the Second Team All State.
