Weekends

As a boarding school, our students’ experiences are not limited to the classroom or to the academic day. Students, both boarding and day, have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities that can be fun, educational or rewarding. On a weekly basis, students can select from a vast array of offerings designed to stimulate life-long interest. Some examples include:

 

  • PerformancesWicked, Lion King,  RAIN- A Tribute to the Beatles, and Blue Man Group at the Richmond Landmark, Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center, A Midsummer Night's Dream by the American Shakespeare Center, and many other theater, dance, speakers, and music performances at The Kennedy Center, Richmond Landmark, Carpenter Center, and surrounding colleges and universities.

 

  • Sporting events: University of Virginia Football, Virginia Commonwealth University Basketball, Woodberry Forest vs. Episcopal High Football and various other women’s and men’s competitions at both high school, college, and minor league levels.

 

  • Historic sites: Stratford Hall, Menokin, Monticello, Colonial Williamsburg, Washington, D.C Union Station and Monument Tour, and many more.

 

  • Social Events: Dances at Christ Church School, Woodberry Forest School, and Blue Ridge School, Potomac River Cruise, Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens, Foxcroft School's Acapella Challenge, Ice Skating in Richmond and Charlottesville, and other outings sponsored by Boarding Schools Social Activity Committee (BSSAC) schools.

 

  • Regional events: Halloween Scream Forest, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, Richmond Folk Festival, Richmond Ukrop's Monument 10K, Tappahannock Farmer's Market, National Book Fair, and Urbanna Oyster Festival.

 

  • Shopping: Trips to Tyson’s Corner, Stony Point Fashion Park, Short Pump Town Center, Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, and Williamsburg's Prime Outlet Center

 

  • Outdoor Adventures: Skiing trip to Wintergreen, rafting trip, overnight camping, hiking, rock climbing. The St. Margaret's waterfront and swimming pool are available (weather permitting) for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and bonfires.

 

  • Museums: Virginia Historical Society, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Smithsonian, iMax at the Science Museum of Virginia, Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, and other museums in the greater Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas.

 

  • On-campus offerings: Crafting, cooking, game nights, karaoke, jewelry making, flash light tag and capture the flag competitions, and movie marathon nights.
