MAJOR GIFT ACCELERATES BROCKENBROUGH HOUSE RENOVATIONS
Strong family ties and fond memories of summers in the area have led to a $300,000 gift from the Chinn family that will bring the renovation of historic Brockenbrough House much closer to completion.

More than 50 local leaders gathered in mid-August at St. Margaret’s Community/Technology Center for a luncheon sponsored by the school’s Community Relations Committee.

SMS ANNOUNCES DORMITORY PLANS
A 24-student dormitory is indeed in the plans for St. Margaret’s, school officials have confirmed. In response to community inquiries, Head of School Margaret R. Broad took the unusual step of making a public announcement before all of the necessary funds have been raised from parents and alumnae.

STUDENTS HONORED AT SMS AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret's School students have won college prizes that make them eligible, in several cases, for special scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions. The awards were presented at the school’s recent 2003-2004 Academic Awards Banquet.

ST. MARGARET'S GRADUATES 36 SENIORS
Fourteen girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula are among the 36 members of the St. Margaret’s School Class of 2004 who were graduated on Saturday, May 29.

NEW 2004-2005 LEADERS INSTALLED AT ST. MARGARET'S
Girls become leaders at St. Margaret's School, where there are more than 50 opportunities to captain teams, lead class activities, head organizations and help administer residential life. Students tapped for 2004-2005 positions in school government, the peer leader program and the dormitories were installed in a recent candlelight chapel service.

WEATHER CHANNEL PUTS SPOTLIGHT ON SMS, TAPPAHANNOCK
St. Margaret’s response to Hurricane Isabel soon will be the focus of a Weather Channel feature on hurricane preparedness. Producer Simon Temperton chose the school after reading a story on the SMS web site about how 17 students and 11 faculty spent the storm in a riverfront dormitory.

St. Margaret's varsity soccer team defeated every team in the league en route to the regular season championship and took home a hard-won second place in the league tournament as the winter sports season ended last week.

St. Margaret’s students followed in the footsteps of their school’s patron saint when they donated more than $150 worth of groceries to St. John’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry in Tappahannock. That’s because Queen Margaret of Scotland devoted part of each morning to personally feeding the poor.

Douglas Marshall cut his 2002 time by more than 20 seconds to win the Fifth Annual Rappahannock River Run at St. Margaret's School on Saturday, October 4. The Mathews resident covered the 5K course in 15:41 to cinch his fifth consecutive victory.

St. Margaret's School opens its doors to the community this weekend for two days of fall fun. The Fifth Annual Rappahannock River Run and Crafts Festival takes place on Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, on the school's Water Lane campus.

Boarding schools like St. Margaret's have a unique responsibility to take care of their students. So when Hurricane Isabel headed for Tappahannock, the school's faculty and staff swung into action, providing a safe harbor in the storm for the 17 boarders who chose to stay on campus.

FIVE SMS STUDENTS TAPPED FOR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Five students at St. Margaret's School, including four from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, have been inducted into the National Honor Society. Senior Jessica Stokes of Tappahannock and juniors Annie Arnest of Kinsale; Rachel Chang of Dae-Jeoun, Korea; Neillee Katona of Dunnsville and Palmer Ware of Dunnsville recently were tapped for membership at a special chapel service.

TEACHER RETENTION HIGHLIGHTS SMS OPENING
Outstanding faculty retention means that when St. Margaret's School students started their classes on Monday, they were learning from adults they already knew and trusted. Almost 95% of the 2002-2003 faculty are back in the classroom, and nearly 40% have been teaching at SMS for 10 or more years.
