June 6, 2007:   ST. MARGARET'S GRADUATES 34 SENIORS
Six girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula are among the 34 members of the St. Margaret’s School Class of 2007 who were graduated on Saturday, June 2. Graduates of this class will be attending some of the nation’s top colleges, including 9 colleges in Virginia and schools in 10 additional states that include Arizona, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

June 6, 2007:   STUDENTS HONORED AT SMS AWARDS BANQUET
St. Margaret’s School students have won academic scholarships and special prizes that make them eligible for college scholarship consideration if they apply to and are accepted by the sponsoring institutions. The awards were presented at the school’s year-end Academic Awards Banquet.

May 17, 2007:   SPRING SMS STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED
At a recent awards breakfast, St. Margaret’s student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during the spring sports season.

April 11, 2007:   SCOTTY SPORTS CORNER: SCOTTIES TURN UP HEAT IN EARLY SEASON
St. Margaret’s School has turned up the heat on its opponents in varsity softball, soccer, and tennis so far this season.

April 4, 2007:   GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE AT SMS BLOOD DRIVE
Local residents have a convenient opportunity to donate blood, thanks to St. Margaret’s School. The student community service organization, Basic Needs, is holding an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, April 12 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the St. Margaret’s School Ball Memorial Gymnasium on Water Lane.

April 2, 2007:   SMS TO HOST “THE BELLE OF AMHERST”
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret’s School community for a performance of The Belle of Amherst, the Tony Award-winning play about Emily Dickinson and her writings. The show stars New York actress Mary Wadkins and will take place on Friday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ball Memorial Gymnasium on Water Lane.

March 21, 2007:   SMS ANNOUNCES HONOR, MERIT AND B ROLL STUDENTS
Head of School Margaret R. Broad is pleased to announce the names of students who have earned a place on the school’s honor and merit rolls for the second trimester of the 2006-2007 academic year.

March 13, 2007:   'MINIMESTER' PROVIDES NEAT RANGE OF CLASSES AT SMS
Cathy Sgroi, assistant head for school life, said the students and teachers like the minimester approach, which allows for a range of trips and independent study, including internships and shadowing professionals away from the school.

February 21, 2007:   ST. MARGARET’S HONORS WINTER ATHLETES
Winter athletes at St. Margaret’s School were honored for their hard work and dedication throughout the season at a breakfast recently. Senior Ligon Brooks, daughter of Jeff and Sara Brooks of Millers Tavern, was among the student-athletes who received awards for their outstanding achievement. She was voted most valuable member of the SMS varsity swim team.

February 15, 2007:   ST. MARGARET’S STUDENTS WIN LITERARY RECOGNITION
Five St. Margaret’s students received recognition for their entries in the 2007 Literary Contest sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Essex County, including the top two prizes for poetry in their division.

January 25, 2007:   SMS STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AT SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Ten St. Margaret’s National Honor Society members served as volunteer workers at the Special Olympics Virginia Alpine Skiing Championships at Wintergreen Resort on January 22 -23.

January 11, 2007:   ST. MARGARET’S TEACHER WINS BIG ON “MILLIONAIRE”
Faith Martin, who teaches in the math department at St. Margaret’s School, walked away with $16,000 in winnings on Monday’s episode of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.”

November 28, 2006:   JOIN US FOR SMS HOLIDAY MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret's community for a special holiday performance by the St. Margaret's School Ensemble and Treble Choir on Friday, December 8 at 7:30 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Tappahannock.

November 15, 2006:   SMS FALL ATHLETES HONORED
Six girls from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula have earned recognition for their athletic accomplishments at St. Margaret's School. They were among the student-athletes who received awards at the school's recent fall sports banquet.

November 1, 2006:   SMS SENIOR IS A BLANTON SCHOLAR
A senior at St. Margaret's School was among only 20 students statewide selected by the Virginia Historical Society to participate in its eighth annual Wyndham B. Blanton Scholars Forum. The historical society's Teachers Advisory Board selected participants on the basis of a research paper competition.

October 20, 2006:   THREE ST MARGARET'S STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AS AP SCHOLARS
Two members of the Class of 2006 and a current senior at St. Margaret's School have earned recognition from The College Board for their outstanding performance on Advanced Placement examinations.

October 4, 2006:   SMS STUDENTS GIVE BACK TO LOCAL COMMUNITY
Students at St. Margaret's understand the importance of giving back to the community in which they live and go to school and frequently seize the opportunity to do so.

New SMS cross country coaches Frank and Milly Rixey are pleased with the team's strong performances through the first half of the season.

September 25, 2006:   PLAN EARLY FOR SMS CRAFTS FAIR AND RIVER RUN
Area residents are encouraged to make plans now to attend the eighth annual Rappahannock River Run/Walk and Crafts Fair sponsored by the St. Margaret's School Alumnae Association.

August 31, 2006:   SMS WELCOMES LOCAL STUDENTS
St. Margaret's School officially welcomed more than 30 students and their families, from six surrounding counties, into its day student program at the annual Day Family Dinner last night.
