New Director Creates Opportunities to Connect

St. Margaret’s alumnae can look forward to the increased opportunities to reconnect with the school they once called home, thanks to the efforts of new Director of Development Anne Hillegass.

“We want to provide an avenue for alumnae and friends to connect with the school in whatever way they feel most comfortable,” she said. Whether through a personal visit, an intimate gathering, or a return to campus, “we think that once our friends have the chance to see all that we’re doing - from academics to the co-curricular program - they will surely want to be more involved. And we hope that increased involvement will lead to increased support for the school.”

Ms. Hillegass began at St. Margaret’s in mid-August after spending the last five years providing donor relations and stewardship at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Her transition to St. Margaret’s is not only a career change, but a lifestyle change for her as well. “After being at such a large organization, I am excited to be in a smaller, more community-like setting,” she said.

“I also look forward to working in the field of education, and especially at a girls’ school. We know that boys and girls learn differently and I can attest to that on a personal level.” The Hollins University graduate attributes much of her success to the benefits of her own girls’ school education. “Being in an all girl environment gave me the niche I needed to succeed and become a leader. At St. Margaret’s I will be able to help make that happen for other girls.”

Anne will play a significant role in securing funds for the St. Margaret’s capital campaign that supports the new athletic fields, the river program, and the school’s endowment. Her lengthy career in marketing, sales, and management provide the skills to do just that. A Virginia Beach native, Ms. Hillegass lives on campus with her beagle, Buddy.
