International Exchanges Broaden Horizons
|

Links to Queen Margaret of Scotland are making the world smaller and horizons broader for participants in this year’s international exchange programs. “Our students will be living and working in an increasingly global society,” said Head of School Margaret R. Broad. “These programs are one of the ways we equip them for that future.” Hannah Burrowes, a rising senior at Queen Margaret College in Wellington, New Zealand, recently completed a six-week visit to Tappahannock. She was hosted during Christmas break by Palmer Ware ’05. (“College” is the New Zealand term for high school). Maryanne Hambridge and Susie Szolosi, tenth-graders at St. Margaret’s School in Berwick, Australia, arrived in January for a 10-week exchange. Sophomores Katy Saunders and Jennie Lynne Leonard will attend school in Berwick this summer. Faculty travel also is part of the exchange program. Biology teacher and Science Department Head Andrea Robinson will visit St. Margaret’s College in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Minimester and spring break to observe the integrated science curriculum. History teacher and Academic Team Chair Grace Rhinesmith will travel to Queen Margaret School in York, England, during June. In addition, Woodberry Forest School has selected two SMS students–juniors Liz Brown and Lauren Glass–to participate in its highly regarded summer study tour of Scotland. |
