Varsity Basketball Team Off to Strong Start

With the season just underway, St. Margaret's 2000 varsity basketball squad is primed to win many games. Led by seniors Katie Farmer (guard), Kym Register (guard) and Catheron Sgroi (center), the Scotties are talented and deep. Point guards Sara Newman and Lisa Jimenez routinely dish the ball to their teammates and remain a threat to score as well.

Newcomers this year include forwards Kristina Bethea and Lindsay Neist, Laura Bishop, a guard, and Jimenez. Jamie Shelor, a senior, is also new this year playing her first year varsity basketball. Ai Akahori and Alexes Anderson round out an impressive team statistician/manager combo, respectively.

"We're excited about the season," says head coach Sue Saunders. "We have a lot or returning players from last year who give leadership mixed with a lot of fresh new faces to make this season an exciting one, it should be another good one. We’re off to a great start at least.

The Scotties’ next home game will be January 18 at Ball Gymnasium in Tappahannock.
