Contact: Jenni Brockman Phone: 804-443-3357 Fax: 804-443-6781 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tappahannock (October 7, 2002) - The community is invited to view paintings by St. Margaret's School art faculty now through October 18 in the school's Community/Technology Center on Water Lane in Tappahannock.
Among the featured works is "Root of the Faith," a 14-painting mixed media interpretation of the Stations of the Cross by artists-in-residence Ignat and Konstantina Konstantinov. Each canvas incorporates clay, oils and driftwood from the Rappahannock River to tell the story of the last hours of Christ. A retrospective of paintings by SMS Fine Arts Chair Catherine Neuhardt-Minor fills the center's mezzanine level. They include landscapes, abstracts and mixed media works, predominantly in an expressionist style. Highlights include a huge, two-panel tribute to the American forces engaged in Operation Desert Storm and a striking self-portrait in tropical hues that Neuhardt-Minor painted during a residency in Costa Rica. The exhibit is open for viewing during school hours, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, contact Neuhardt-Minor at 443-3357. |
