FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tappahannock (April 2, 2007)

Area residents are invited to join the St. Margaret’s School community for a performance of The Belle of Amherst, the Tony Award-winning play about Emily Dickinson and her writings. The show stars New York actress Mary Wadkins and will take place on Friday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ball Memorial Gymnasium on Water Lane.

The Belle of Amherst playwright William Luce draws heavily upon the poems, letters and first hand accounts of Emily Dickinson to sculpt a one-woman play that is an inspiring, poignant and truthful biography of one of America’s greatest literary women. This will be Wadkins’ farewell performance before retiring the long-time running show.

The event is free and open to the public. Funding for this performance was made possible by the St. Margaret’s School Parent Council and is sponsored by the school’s English department.

New York Actress Mary Wadkins performing this role across the country has been praised by critics and educators alike.
