At a recent awards breakfast, St. Margaret’s student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments during the spring sports season. Among the many sports teams in play this season was the first-ever SMS golf team, coached by David LaLiberty. Four girls were a part of this season’s team. Among them, sophomore Caroline Rollins of Atlanta, GA, was voted most valuable golfer and Junior Megan Lynch of Columbia, SC, was voted most improved golfer.
The varsity softball team named senior pitcher Keri Straughan of Hague as its most valuable player. She was also named to the League of Independent Schools’ all-league softball team. Senior Katie Coffey of Japan was voted most improved player. Senior Ligon Brooks of Millers Tavern earned the highest batting average award, posting .369 for the season. Coaches Sue and Terry Haney presented senior awards to Brooks, Straughan and Chelsea Jacobs of Dunnsville for their three years of varsity play.

Junior varsity softball players chose junior Tess Potter of Bealeton, as the team’s most valuable player and junior Mung Ha of Hong Kong was voted most improved player. Coaches Cameron Sgroi and George McDowell presented the coach’s award to sophomore Scarlett Gregory of King William.
The varsity crew team chose Hannah Kessler, a junior from Bethesda, MD, as most valuable rower, and named freshman Pepper Silliman of Montchanin, DE, as most improved. Coach Maren LaLiberty presented a senior award to Su Jin Jeon of Korea for her four years of varsity rowing.
The novice crew team, coached by Cupper Dickinson, selected eighth grader Marley Rudolf of Napa, CA, as most valuable rower and eighth grader So Youn Kim of Korea as most improved rower.
Varsity soccer was coached this season by Laura Dusablon. Members of the varsity team chose Senior Taylor Miller of Warrenton as most valuable player. Her impressive goal against the Collegiate School earned her this honor as well as being named to the League of Independent Schools all-league soccer team. Most improved player was sophomore Christina Beckham of Montross. Dusablon gave the coach’s award to sophomore Crystal Thomas of Severn, MD. As the team goalie, Thomas made over 200 saves this season.
The varsity tennis team, coached by Faith Martin, chose sophomore Flo Snyder of Rock Hill, SC, as most valuable player and sophomore Nancy Brauns of Richmond as most improved player. Martin also presented a senior award to Da Hae Lee of Korea for year 3 years of varsity play.
