Head of School Cathy Sgroi has been with St. Margaret’s for nearly 45 years. Her love of education, and commitment to the power of St. Margaret’s mission, led to positions of steadily increased responsibility.
Cathy joined SMS as a math teacher. As her leadership qualities became more apparent, she was named Department Head, then Dean of Faculty and Assistant Head. In 2016, the Board of Governors appointed Cathy as St. Margaret’s twelfth Head of School.
Cathy earned her Bachelor’s in Mathematics from the University of Richmond. Early on, Cathy realized her calling was in education and sharing that love with her students. After arriving at St. Margaret’s, Cathy came to truly understand the power of the all-girls experience in instilling the values and educational experience girls need to become leaders in society. Even after 44 years, Cathy gains inspiration from her students and relishes her role as mentor, teacher, “mother” and role model.
Cathy is supported by her husband, Joe, and her family. She and Joe have two children, Cameron, who graduated from St. Margaret’s in 2000 and has recently worked as Director of Admission and now as School Counselor at St. Margaret’s; and a son, Jes, who lives nearby with his wife and their children.
