Cornelius Snead Joins St. Margaret’s School as Dean of Athletics
Brings over 20 years of coaching and training experience

(Tappahannock, Va.) - St. Margaret’s School’s Head of School Colley Bell announced today the appointment of Cornelius Snead as St. Margaret’s School’s Dean of Athletics. Beginning July 1, Snead will oversee the school’s athletic program that encompasses 12 varsity and club sports.

Snead comes to St. Margaret’s from Trinity Collegiate in South Carolina where he led the varsity girls basketball team to a (26-5) record and a ranking as high as #1 in the state. He previously coached Middleburg Academy’s program to Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Runner Up and his Herndon (Va.) High School Team was 2015-16 Conference Champions (the first and only 6A State Semifinals in school history).

"With my decades of experience, I have the blueprint for what it takes to build a truly great athletic program,” said Cornelius Snead. “St. Margaret’s School has a wonderful history and I’m excited to develop the varsity athletic program so that girls of every grade level have the ability to play a sport year-round, learning teamwork and problem-solving.”

“Cornelius is a well-known powerhouse in the world of independent and boarding school athletics,” said Head of School Colley Bell. “We are excited to have him start on July 1 and to catapult St. Margaret’s athletics to further prominence.”

At St. Margaret’s, Snead will grow varsity athletic offerings including a full-fledged soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse program. The school has a 42-acre athletic complex with two Bermuda grass fields, hiking/running trails, softball fields, and tennis courts. Situated on the banks of the Rapphannock River, the school uses the river for its crew program and general sports conditioning.
