Be St. Margaret's

We coach and support student-athletes to Be St. Margaret's; to become part of a team and belong to something bigger than themselves. To believe in what they can achieve and not be afraid to fail. To push themselves to become better people, better students, better teammates, and skilled athletes who are prepared to succeed in life. Whether you’re preparing for college athletics or just looking to try something new, there are plenty of opportunities here for you to push yourself and have fun.

Athletics News

We are excited to announce Maya C ’21 and Zoe T '20 qualified to compete in the VISAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. Zoe will compete in the 55M and long jump. Maya will compete in long jump. The first SMS Indoor Track team focused on improving with each event. “It was an exciting season,” said Coach Heath VanFleet. “The team far exceeded my expectations for success not only as a team, but also individual improvement throughout the course of the season.” Despite battling difficult training conditions, the team finished 4th out of 14 teams in regular season competition. Helping drive the course for the team’s success was the leadership and enthusiasm of team captains Shae-Lynn S '19 and Zoe. “They are a resilient group with positive attitudes, a joy for any coach to work with.”

Congratulations to senior, Tanner Robertson for signing a Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I Softball with Longwood University in Fall 2019.

Heads up to St. Margaret's senior, Kristen Berry, who was named to the 2018 All-LIS Volleyball team for a second time, and to our coach and Director of Athletics, Cynthia Walker, who was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time in a row.

Athletics is about more than the outcome of a practice or game; it's about coaching our girls for life. The building of one's character through teachable moments on the field, on the court, in the pool, or in the locker room is how you Be St. Margaret's. It's where qualities like self-confidence, resiliency, teamwork, empathy, mental toughness, self-control, and respect for others are developed - almost identical to our To Be Statements, further supporting our long-standing mission and philosophy. That's the big picture.
